Are we turning into an intolerant, undemocratic country?

Today America created history by electing Barack Obama as the first Afro American President of a white country. A country which has a history of bias against the Afro Americans. The Governor at Manhattan celebrates Independence Day by hoisting the Indian National Flag. Why am I blabbering about America? Because it amazes me that a Country can choose a President who is not born there and is of a different race, cause they celebrate another country’s Independence Day cause they have people from that country living there in large numbers and they don’t feel threatened. Even if they do, they don’t beat them up and kill them.
All this when we are busy killing and beating up people in practically every other State of ours in the name of language, religion, sub-caste- and we are supposed to be one race. We “Indian” who have always stood for tolerance, love and democracy.
What has changed in the last 60 years? Has freedom made us less responsible, more callous and lesser humans?
